In 2008, archaeologists from the Burgas Museum discovered the Solna Niva area and prehistoric objects near Atanasovsko Lake, 10 km from the town. The earliest of these items were probably used 6000 BC and are related to agriculture, salt mining and pottery. The area between the lakes nearby was named as the crossroads of the most ancient civilizations. Among the first residents of the region are the Thracians, who around the 6th century BC. created a number of settlements on the territory of today's Burgas.

In the 18th century, Burgas was first noticed by Europeans because the city was the most important port south of the Balkans.
The first town hall was founded in February 1878, the first public library was opened in 1888, and three years later the first urban plan of Burgas was presented. In the city center and along the coast, many buildings from that era have been beautifully restored and add exclusively to the beauty and charm of the city.
